Profile Information

How are you currently involved in Transition to a post-petroleum lifestlyle?
Part of the Bloomington Transition Initiating Group working to make people in this area aware of the possible impact of peak oil, climate change and the resulting economic turbulence so they can begin to plan and take steps to make the community more resilient in the face of these challenges.
How do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I love the people aspect of Transition. We say, yes there may be a problem,,,,lets get together and work out a way to handle it! I also like the way it recognizes that almost everyone has a skill, wisdom, talent, knowledge....something that is helpful. And it emphasizes community as a plus when dealing with problems rather than painting the 'others' as scary bogey men. It's a wonderful thing, you know??
How can you help the growth / acceptance / vitality of local Transition efforts? What can YOU teach us? What can your Group teach us?
I plan to keep on spreading the word and being part of a growing, responsible and responsive community of people.

Hi David. A friend of mine is working with may creek farm on the community center project I believe, and he mentioned to me that may creek has a good amount of open land looking to be staffed and farmed. Is this true? If so, I could set up a partnership to get some workers on the land. I help run a student community garden on the IU campus, and we're growing in membership, and could use some more land. Do you think we could make an arrangement to bring students out to may creek's land to farm? let me know!

David, that is rather the role that I had in mind. I have some familiarity with Prochaska and DiClemente's work, but I'd love to see a copy of the chapter that you mentioned. I'm going to be hitting the books to come up with relevant psychological findings.

Thanks for the welcome, David. I look forward to helping with this effort, where I can. I also agree that change begins at home, but I sure am grateful to those outside experts/advocates in our community who educate and inspire me.

My preference is to use solar. We could place solar panels all along our roads and set up fueling areas for vehicles. I have an article about a new "fueling" method for electric vehicles that can be put in the road bed. When a vehicle stops over it the energy is transferred.

I sure would. I have researched and lectured all over the world on systems thinking and design for sustainability. I am including my bio and a current presentation flyer for your use. Let me know how I can help?

Hi david, if you have time, you should come out to the charrette meetings this week at city hall. We're advocating for an alternative plan for the bypass expansion project. It's suuppeeerrr important that we get as many people to come as possible. The city is planning to widen the bypass at 10th street and 3rd street, which is going to make it harder for all of us to walk and bike through this intersection. Please spread the word! The meetings are at 5:30 on the 27th, 29th and 3rd. If you want to read more about it, I posted some info in the forum section.
