Indianapolis Photojournalist/Blogger Seeking Barter/Trade/Internship

I'm a 43 year old photographer and writer with a lot of experience with computing, design and social network outreach.  I would very much like to be part of the Bloomington Transition community and feel my skills would be a great asset to helping grow awareness for permaculture and the important work that I'm seeing done in Bloomington.   I've been a photographer for over 20 years, have been writing over 10 in various roles as director of my own grassroots music project that garnered national…See More

Profile Information

How are you currently involved in Transition to a post-petroleum lifestlyle?
As a researcher and writer in Indianapolis, I followed the BP disaster - which lead me to information on peak oil and subsequent groups following market trends related to oil, food and economic impacts globally. I currently network with several people in other states and countries making the transition in their communities and try to share as much information as possible on social networks and blogging.
How do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
After reading material from Michael Ruppert and Jared Diamond, I found that one thread of information was consistent in regards to food supply and currency. My grandparents were both Victory Gardeners and I grew up learning much of what they were taught. On a personal level, there is knowledge I would like to share (or pass down if you will) either through writing or hands on work with others in my state. I identify with the community coming back together - I'm hopeful when I see people working together in an almost tribal way. I think we need to.
How can you help the growth / acceptance / vitality of local Transition efforts? What can YOU teach us? What can your Group teach us?
I'm a writer and photographer by trade and have been trying to reach as many people as possible through social networking, sharing news stories that open eyes to the changes going on around us. I think the Victory Garden/canning knowledge helps put a purposeful and meaningful face on transition and creates an almost patriotic sense of duty. I see it as a bridge to reach more people to accept and almost embrace transition - by making it fun and educational.

I'm in Indianapolis and wish to move to Bloomington to learn more hands on ways to lift transition efforts here. I hope to network with several orgs to help teach urban gardening. I have friends in several social/environmental groups that would benefit greatly that I wish to help bridge information and tools for them to teach as well. One is a local food pantry, an org for Urban Women and the Hoosier Environmental Council whose efforts I support wholeheartedly.

My capacity for teaching would be in the realm of social networking and press connections and info/data research sharing on global markets as well as information on reusing/recycling materials for function and art. On a personal level, I have Native American ties & stories that have helped others embrace transition on a spiritual level. It's not often discussed in what I call the 'doomer' community and I try to inject hope as much as possible.
Can you give 2-5 hours a month in Bloomington to manifest real projects and will you show up?
I would love to. My goal is to move to Bloomington, which is why I wanted to join this page first - to connect with a like-minded community. Indianapolis has a long way to go but I want to learn more and help bridge the gap. I would be interested in job training or any work available that would further that goal. I'm glad to participate in local projects in Indy once I can find them! In regards to the Urban Women org - the founder has recently obtained a grant for transforming urban spaces into gardens. I'd like to help with this project as the founder isn't knowledgeable about gardening/permaculture - I hope to gain some knowledge to share with them or reach across cities to connect them with others that can lead in that regard.

Hopi call for Prayer to restore balance in Japan and Mother Earth

March 17,2011

The Hopi are praying for the people of Japan and for the people around the world as we face crisis in our world out of balance.  We are all in a time of great change upon mother earth and these events have been foretold by our Elders.

Through our Prophecies and our Ceremonies the sacred land of this earth is now crying. And our children are looking to Hopi to balance life for their future.

Our Elders have given us guidance for how to move through these…

From World News Desk at CollpaseNet : Message from Michael C. Ruppert

03/03/11

Be very concerned that Libya might well be the last straw in the back of industrial civilization. Even though we've spent the entire day looking for a place in Sonoma County (with some great prospects) I've been keeping abreast of things. As you will see below, Libya is already kicking the uber-fragile European economy in the gut. Reports today of loyalist attacks on oil and natgas facilities in Libya has had -- and will continue to…

I read One Straw Revolution in the mid-70s and all Fukuokas subsequent books. I know the translator of his work, a permaculture teacher of many years, Larry Korn. Fukuoka came to the first International Permaculture Gathering in the early 80s. I've kept up with the further expression and application of his principle teachings.
