Spritual Activism film & discussion at Allison Jukebox Center

September 29, 2010 from 7pm to 9pm
Spiritual Activism is our Evolver Spore theme this month. Spiritual Activism has been called "the movement behind all movements". It is the force that compels people to work for a better world for all, not just for self. And at its core there is always first a movement out of the fruit of one's inner spiritual practice and into the bowl of community. We'll be screening the film "Fierce Light: When Spirit Meets Action" followed by a discussion and stories of how spiritual activism is working in…See More

How do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
Even if we weren't so close to the crisis point on so many global problems, it wouldn't be right to live w/out consideration of the long-term consequences or externalized costs of one's lifestyle. The current state of affairs makes it absolutely necessary. Besides, it's a lot more fun than complacent normalcy/status-quo sleepwalking.
How can you help the growth / acceptance / vitality of local Transition efforts? What can YOU teach us? What can your Group teach us?
By promulgating & proliferating entertainingly informative media for the masses, -by facilitiating connections & communication between activists & the general public thru multiple mediums & means, -by profiling people, projects & groups endeavoring to help humanity progress & heal the planet.
I'll remind you of the least among ye, the poor & downtrodden, often forsaken by suburban gardening clubs & politically progressive intentioneers.

Eco Media Center of Monroe County - Community RainGarten on the B-Line Trail needs your input

Hello ALL, Please forward this notice to anyone that may be interested or able to assist.

The Eco Media Center of Monroe County (a CSL non-profit project) has received approval from the City and local property owners to plant a raingarten array right next to the B-Line rail-to-trail just across from City Hall/Farmers Market beneath the graffitti mural.

The site is off the NE corner of the parking lot of Bloomingfoods West (formerly Encore Cafe) and along the backside of the Boomerang/Bike Project building adminsitered by Kemp Logan.

The plan is to construct a living bioscape with that incorporates rainwater catchment, xeriscaping, vegetable/herb gardens, worm composting bins, shaded seating and covered bikeracks, recycling bins, dogwater dispensers, birdhouses and artwork/sculpture into the design.

Construction should begin by Mothers' Day. Volunteer help and community contributions still necessary. Permacultural consultation also welcome.

We are using reclaimed items from the Habitat ReStore and other donated items and plan to use only re-used or eco-friendly materials in this microcosm green build.

Still needed:
~Construction & Carpentry tools
~Containers/pots/flower boxes
~Bamboo/cedar/scrap wood/stands/shelves
~Seeds/Sarts/Soil/Compost/Mulch
~Worms - for visible compost operation
~Screws, wire, tomato cages
~Rain barrels/cistern
~Greywater filtration system
~Plumbing fixtures
~Birdhouses/feeders
~Old doors, windows and the like
~A dresser/bureau? (to function as recycling bins)

Please respond ASAP to be included in the creation of this permacultural prototype project.
Other details about the project follow below this signature... scroll down....

thanx,
Mylo Roze

Hi Mylo,

I'll be at the meeting this Saturday evening. I might need to bring my husband, since the meeting falls in between kayaking and Latin Dance night at Rumba's! I'd also be happy to meet with just you, if that's what you meet. I agree that this is a critical issue: I work with people in poverty to help them move toward self-sufficiency, and that's difficult to do without living-wage jobs. Green-collar jobs, by definition according to Green for All, pay living wages. Certainly there's a good potential for decent wages. And part of the strategy for helping new green-collar businesses prosper will be a commitment by the city to use their services and encourage others to do so. The common council is behind the green-collar jobs initiative I'm involved in, and we have several environmentally-minded people among them. I have high hopes for this effort, and it seems to me that a collaboration between the Ecopreneurship Incubator committee and this fledgling green-collar jobs initiative could be extremely beneficial.

Hi Mylo, I'm sorry to have missed the June Ecopreneurial Incubator meeting. My daughter came into town from NC unexpectedly - I got caught up with her and forgot all of my other weekend plans! I am signed up as a "might" for the July meeting because I want to check with my family and make sure that I am TRULY available this time! FYI, I'm working with some city and county council people and the Economic Development and Sustainability office on plans to develop more green-collar businesses and social entrepreneurships in Bloomington; Economic Development has some under-utilized funding for people who want to start businesses. We're just beginning this process; I'll keep you informed as it develops.
