"Tentatively, Yes. Sun. Ballantine Hall room 222 2-4. I'll let you know here if anything changes. It's rather synchronistic that the next Evolver Spore (May 19) is on Resilience :-) http://www.evolver.net/resilience_revolution"

Mylo Roze commented on Scott Routen's blog post Has anyone heard of 'slow money?'
"As far as the speed of the flow of money goes, it seems it always comes in too slowly & goes out too quickly. I think that we need to rethink the entire concept of money, a mere IOU for real goods, formerly based on precious metals & soon to…"

Profile Information

How are you currently involved in Transition to a post-petroleum lifestlyle?
While studying Permaculture and Transition independently, I serendipitously found my way to a dynamic group of local neighbors, The Bloomington Transition Initiating Group.
How do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I was wondering at the curious relevance of patterns and principles in Permaculture to social systems while walking a friend's dog in an East side neighborhood one sunny day. I stopped by a favorite garden to say hello to Lucille Bertuccio, who made me aware, in casual conversation, of the work of Rob Hopkins.

In Transition Towns, I immediately recognized an elegant answer to my half-formed questions. Yes, we can "build living soil" as a social metaphor, connect the inflows and outflows of social systems through careful observation and interaction, increase yields of creative energy through self-organization, integrate small, slow solutions, and vitalize lively responses to shock and change, all while building resilience and capturing new energy. In Europe, it was well underway! Having spent my youth in the woods here near Bloomington, it just makes good sense to me.
How can you help the growth / acceptance / vitality of local Transition efforts? What can YOU teach us? What can your Group teach us?
I can share my interests, my passions, my questions and see what happens. Here are some things I'm drawn to:

*spirit - the quantum effects of loving awareness on collective reality
*shelter - local and earth building solutions, new construction economies
*fire - mass heaters, homemade wind turbines
*water - slow sand water filters, rain catchment, ponds and swimmin' holes
*food - growing my own garden, tuning to nature
*education - hands on learning, wilderness awareness
*land use - sub/urban permaculture, neighborhood form, wilderness restoration
*economy - creating the 'slow lane'

First Earth

Everything to love about Earth Building and why.

This is the film I've been looking for!

http://www.davidsheen.com/firstearth/english/

'First Earth' is a documentary of about 97 minutes covering the many intersecting reasons that earth itself is such a powerful choice as a building material. Earth's true strength is not based on any single factor; its many… Continue

Has anyone heard of 'slow money?'

I am not an economy person, nor do I know much about it beyond my personal experience with it's effect on me and my family, the art of keeping my overhead as low as humanly possible, and bearing witness to the convoluted ways in which capital flows in and out of building and real estate projects. But the economic system is fascinating to me, like watching fire.

A key point I often think about when contemplating the future of Transition initiatives is the inevitable intersection… Continue
